The Numidian Revolutionary Who Ended Catholicism in North Africa The full story as never been told before
During the Roman occupation, Donatism emerged as a more encompassing movement in North Africa than any other of its time. It was a reformist Christian revolution aimed at purging Christianity of perceived corruption within the Catholic Church. This popular movement advocated for justice and equality between the Romans and the indigenous Imazighen. Additionally, it championed the independence and liberation of the Imazighen, who had been reduced to wretched labourers, toiling on their own lands for the Romans, who exploited them through fines and plundered their wealth.
Donatism united the populations of Africa, Numidia, and Mauritania under the leadership of Donatus. In his early life, Donatus thrived and developed the qualities necessary for a leader to challenge the Catholic Church. Armed with knowledge and backed by the support of bishops, he became a prominent figure in the movement. With the support of his Imazighen community, this resilient leader successfully confronted Roman hegemony. His defiance was evident in his rejection of the emperor's injustice and the authority of his legates. Remarkably, his cause was comprehensive in scope, intertwining ecclesiastical rebellion with social and political struggles.
